Safe Harbor Deep River, long known as Brewer Deep River Marina, runs roughly 120 slips on the Connecticut River with a swimming pool, picnic areas, and a ship's store. It is known for a peaceful setting well away from the busier water down at the river mouth.
This is the furthest inland we regularly travel, about an hour from Milford, and the run makes sense for larger jobs or for several boats booked together at the same yard.
Owners often assume a fresh-water boat needs less work than a salt-water one. On the finish that is only half true. No salt load and almost no marine growth is a real advantage. But the Connecticut River carries heavy silt and tannins, and tannin staining is among the most stubborn problems we handle. It bonds into gelcoat rather than sitting on the surface, and light washing will not shift it once set.
The answer upriver is prevention rather than correction. A sealed or coated hull resists tannin staining dramatically better than bare gelcoat, and a boat washed on a regular cadence never gives the stain time to bond. Left alone for a full season, a Deep River boat often needs two-step compounding at the waterline to come back.
The same packages we run across the shoreline. Restoration and seasonal work is quoted after a look at the boat.
