Harbor One Marina sits on the Saybrook Point waterfront, one of the two upscale marinas boaters meet first coming into the Connecticut River from the Sound.
The river mouth here is the busiest piece of water on the eastern Connecticut shoreline, with traffic heading upriver to Essex and beyond as well as out to the Sound.

Boats kept at the river mouth get the mixed-water problem in its clearest form: fresh water and silt coming downstream meeting salt pushing up from the Sound. The waterline stain that results is neither straightforward growth nor straightforward tannin, and it usually needs proper compounding rather than a wash to come back.
The outgoing tide runs hard through this stretch, which keeps things moving but also means a constant load of suspended material against the hull. A sealed or coated hull resists it dramatically better than bare gelcoat.
