New Haven Harbor, Oyster River, Cove River
West Haven shares a border with us. The Oyster River forms the boundary between the two towns and empties into the Sound at Oyster River Point, so a West Haven call is a ten minute run for us at most.
The city's waters cover the western half of New Haven Harbor plus the tidal stretches of the West River, Oyster River, Cove River, and Old Field Creek. It is a shoreline town with a long waterfront, though the boating infrastructure looks different here than it does in a marina town like Branford.

April Street boat launchThe city launch, more than a mile from the federal channel and usable in a narrow window around high tide.

West Haven skews toward trailerable boats, largely because launching is limited to a narrow band around high tide. That changes what a detail looks like. We are often working in a driveway or side yard rather than on a dock, which is honestly easier: better access to the hull sides, no dock lines in the way, and we can get properly underneath at the waterline.
Trailer boats also collect a different kind of grime. Road film from towing sits on the hull sides and the trailer bunks leave marks on the bottom of the hull. A wash and wax on a trailered boat usually produces a more dramatic before and after than the same service on a slipped boat, simply because we can reach every surface.
