Housatonic River, Long Island Sound

Stratford sits directly across the Housatonic River from us, which makes it the shortest run our truck makes. We are usually on site within about ten minutes of leaving Milford, and we detail more boats here than almost anywhere else on the coast.

The town has kept boats in the water since the shipyards of the 1700s, and the west bank of the river is still lined with working marinas. Whether your boat is slipped a mile and a half upriver or sitting on a trailer in your driveway near Short Beach, we bring the whole setup to you.

Where we work

Marinas, docks, and yards in Stratford.

The Housatonic's west bank holds a cluster of yards within a few minutes of each other, so we can often service several boats in one trip:

Boardwalk Marina165 floating slips and over 1,000 feet of riverfront dockage, a half mile off I-95.
Safe Harbor StratfordAbout 1.5 miles upriver on a site where shipyards have operated since the 1700s, roughly 200 slips.
Brown's MarinaSeasonal slips and winter storage on the west bank for vessels up to 50 feet.
Housatonic Boat ClubA family boat club active in salt water recreation since 1887.
Driveways and trailersPlenty of Stratford boats live at home. We detail on the trailer just as readily as in the slip.

The Housatonic is a tidal river, so boats kept here sit in brackish water that swings between fresh and salt with every cycle. That mix tends to leave a stubborn stain line right at the waterline, browner and harder to remove than what we see on boats kept out in open salt water.

Current in the river can run up to three knots, which keeps growth moving but also means silt and tannins are constantly working against your gelcoat. Boats slipped upriver usually need attention at the waterline more often than their owners expect, and a polymer sealant or ceramic coating buys real time between details here.
