That position is a real advantage for anyone heading out regularly, since it avoids the bridge queues in the village entirely.

Boats kept nearer the river mouth get a different balance of problems from the downtown boats. Less wake and less bridge-queue traffic, but considerably more salt as Fishers Island Sound pushes up on the flood.
That shifts the emphasis from fender rub and dock marks toward salt load and UV. A coating earns its money here in a way it does not quite as clearly for a boat tucked up in the village.
