Pine Island Marina sits on the Groton shoreline facing Fishers Island Sound, with Bluff Point State Park and the open water of the eastern Sound close at hand.
This is more exposed water than anything on the western half of the Connecticut coast, and the boats kept here are used accordingly.

Open-water frontage means salt spray in a way that a sheltered river berth never produces. Wind-driven spray dries on the topsides and bakes in the sun, and that cycle repeated through a season is the single most reliable way to dull a gelcoat finish.
This is one of the clearest cases in our whole service area for ceramic coating. A coated hull sheds salt readily and rinses clean with far less effort, and on a boat this exposed the difference over three seasons is substantial rather than marginal.
