Stonington is the furthest point we travel, about eighty minutes east of Milford and hard against the Rhode Island line. It is Connecticut's easternmost cruising port and the only one with genuine Atlantic Ocean exposure, and locals will tell you it has the most beautiful harbor on the East Coast.
The Borough, incorporated in 1801 and the oldest in Connecticut, sits on a narrow peninsula and is home to the last remaining full-time commercial fishing fleet in the state. The Blessing of the Fleet, rooted in the Borough's Portuguese community, has run since 1954. This is a working harbor with a real fleet in it, not a resort.

Everything west of here is Long Island Sound, which is protected water whether owners think of it that way or not. Stonington is not. This harbor gets genuine ocean exposure, and boats kept here take a salt load that nothing on the rest of our coast matches. A finish that would hold two seasons in Milford will look tired in one here.
That makes Stonington the strongest case for ceramic coating in our entire range, and the place where we are least likely to recommend anything else. There is also a working fleet character to the harbor: commercial boats bring diesel, fish, and bait residue into the air and water, and pleasure boats moored nearby pick it up. Non-skid that has had bait residue worked into the texture needs proper cleaning rather than a rinse, and a sealed non-skid surface releases it far more easily next time.

Matt of Matt's Boat Detailing (MBD) is the real deal. He cleaned up a mess that a different detailer made. With Phase I complete, my boat looks great! I am so happy I finally got to use his services. He is a hands on owner operator which I think is very important. He took the time to visit and advise as well as inspect the final work making adjustments as necessary. He knows what he is doing and he and his crew even properly prepped to protect neighboring surfaces, which most boat detailers are too lazy to do. My Experience with Matt's details was truly top notch! First off I called him very late in the spring and he came up with a way to get my Hull done to follow up with the super structure once in the water. This year I opted to go with not only a compound and seal but also went down the ceramic coating route in hopes of getting an extra year out of the job. First off his pricing is very competitive compared to few others I checked. Matts work was amazing and the boat looks brand new! Lastly, his communication was spot on. As with any spring/early summer project in New England, we had plenty of weather related issues. He kept me posted every step of the way, touched base with any reschedules, let me know when he got there, and lastly when he left.
