Norwalk is about thirty-five minutes west and is one of the most active boating towns anywhere on our stretch of coast. The harbor is a well-protected deep-water basin at the mouth of the Norwalk River, and the Norwalk Islands sit just offshore, which gives owners here somewhere to actually go.
The scale is serious. Norwalk Cove Marina alone runs 400 slips taking boats up to 180 feet and operates three Travelifts with hauling capacity to 150 tons. Rex Marine has been run by the Gardella family since 1936. This is a town with real marine infrastructure, not just dockage.

The Norwalk Islands change the maintenance picture. With sixteen islands a short run offshore, boats here go out constantly through the season rather than sitting in the slip waiting for a weekend. More hours on the water means more salt spray drying on the topsides and more UV on the gelcoat, and the finishes show it by August.
That usage pattern makes recurring work more valuable than one-off correction. A Norwalk boat on a wash plan holds its gloss for years. A Norwalk boat that gets one detail a season tends to need compounding by the second or third year because oxidation has had a full summer of hard use to set in. If you run to the islands every weekend, the wash plan is the cheaper path.

He is a hands on owner operator which I think is very important. He took the time to visit and advise as well as inspect the final work making adjustments as necessary. He knows what he is doing and he and his crew even properly prepped to protect neighboring surfaces, which most boat detailers are too lazy to do. My Experience with Matt's details was truly top notch! First off I called him very late in the spring and he came up with a way to get my Hull done to follow up with the super structure once in the water. This year I opted to go with not only a compound and seal but also went down the ceramic coating route in hopes of getting an extra year out of the job. First off his pricing is very competitive compared to few others I checked. Matts work was amazing and the boat looks brand new! Lastly, his communication was spot on. As with any spring/early summer project in New England, we had plenty of weather related issues. He kept me posted every step of the way, touched base with any reschedules, let me know when he got there, and lastly when he left.
