Greenwich is the western edge of our service area and about fifty minutes down I-95 from Milford. We do not come here for a single quick wash. We come for larger jobs, ceramic coating work, and owners who book several boats at one club or yard so the trip earns itself.
The town runs an unusual setup. Four resident marinas at Byram, Cos Cob, Grass Island, and the Greenwich Point boat yard operate from mid-April to mid-November on facility use permits, and alongside them sits a cluster of private clubs and commercial yards along the Mianus River in Cos Cob. Between the two you get a wider spread of boat sizes here than anywhere else we work.

Indian Harbor Yacht ClubFounded 1889 in Captain Harbor, with moorings, launch service, and a clubhouse dating to 1921.
Beacon Point MarineFull-service yard on River Road in Cos Cob, on the Mianus River.

The town marinas are full of small boats. Byram and Grass Island cap out around 21 to 22 feet, and Cos Cob at 28. These are open boats with no cabin top shading anything, and they take full sun on the gelcoat, seats, and non-skid all season. Oxidation shows up fast and a sealant is worth more than owners expect on a boat this size.
The clubs and Mianus River yards are the opposite. Larger vessels, deeper pockets, higher standards, and finishes that are expensive to correct once they go. On those boats we push hard for ceramic coating rather than repeat compounding, because the cost curve on a large hull only runs one direction. Captain Harbor is also genuinely exposed western Sound water, so salt spray is relentless out on the moorings.

He is a hands on owner operator which I think is very important. He took the time to visit and advise as well as inspect the final work making adjustments as necessary. He knows what he is doing and he and his crew even properly prepped to protect neighboring surfaces, which most boat detailers are too lazy to do. First off I called him very late in the spring and he came up with a way to get my Hull done to follow up with the super structure once in the water. This year I opted to go with not only a compound and seal but also went down the ceramic coating route in hopes of getting an extra year out of the job. First off his pricing is very competitive compared to few others I checked. Matts work was amazing and the boat looks brand new! Lastly, his communication was spot on. As with any spring/early summer project in New England, we had plenty of weather related issues. He kept me posted every step of the way, touched base with any reschedules, let me know when he got there, and lastly when he left.
